Empellon Cocina, Alex Stupak & Lauren Resler’s constantly evolving restaurant in Manhattan’s East Village, now prices every menu item at $19 or under, with the exception of two large format items (a $45 wagyu steak and a $35 pork belly pibil).
Just a few weeks ago, virtually all of the fish and meat entrees were in the $20s or $30s. Now, none of them are. The $26 rabbit is now $19, in what is presumably a smaller portion. The lobster with tortillas, briefly $30, is back down to $19.
Careful readers will spot a few new dishes, including a fettuccine with crispy pork and egg yolk, as well as smoked chicken wings with braised pine nuts and tinga poblana. Earlier this year, I awarded Empellon Cocina three stars in my Bloomberg News column. So yeah, Empellon Cocina is most definitely still a STRONG BUY. But expect more changes. That’s the Stupak way.
