Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
This poor bloke was vomited on. In a Brooklyn cafe. Yuk. So he asks, somewhat rhetorically, whether he should have been served a proper apology instead of a full bill.
As we’ve argued, comped entrees or free meals aren’t typically the best way of addressing guest complaints. A full comp isn’t so much a restaurant’s way of saying “we’re sorry,” but rather an admission that the goods and services provided had so little value that you won’t be charged. Most of the time, a free round of drinks will do the trick as the kitchen corrects an error.
But in cases of being vomited on, yeah, we’re gonna go ahead and say, free meals, packaged with Iranian caviar and bottles of Dom Perignon, are most definitely in order. It’s tough to enjoy a meal when the smell of puke permeates your clothes, don’t ya think? Then again, while your meal might have been “worthless”, your story is certainly “priceless.” Carry on.
